Sandy Bednarz Petersen, LCPC has her masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lewis University, with a concentration in child and adolescent counseling. She has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. Sandy has provided treatment for mood disorders (depression, bipolar), anxiety disorders, oppositional/defiant behavior and conduct problems, and problems adjusting to life changes (i.e. divorce, moving, transitioning to a new school) and self-esteem. She also has extensive experience working with clients that have an intellectual disability and mental illness.

Sandy utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in her work with clients. Play is also incorporated in her work with children. These approaches allow for counseling to be a collaboration. Sandy has found that collaboration helps clients to feel comfortable in the counseling process and be successful in the progress in treatment. Clients are encouraged to express their needs and goals for treatment as well as incorporate their values into counseling. Sandy believes it is important to approach clients with an empathic stand providing an accepting and safe place for treatment.
